Yesterday I was lucky enough to sneak out of the office and visit Evergreen Brick Works for a harvest party at the weekly Chefs’ Market. The event was a celebration of the first season of this market, which connects local farmers with chefs and retailers who are looking to buy in bulk.
Live music by Kit-Gut String Band created the perfect atmosphere for easy conversation. But according to Ed Rek, Chefs’ Market manager, by early afternoon the party was in full swing. “Jessica from Merchants of Green Coffee was coaxed into singing Patsy Cline and she really brought down the house.”
Fresh coffee, roast lamb and Jamie Kennedy fritters made for a happy crowd, and Ed was pleased. “Although the star of the show (the lamb provided by Scotch Mountain Meats) was stuck in traffic, the chefs were able to get the fire going and all were fed for lunch.”
